Practical Training on Ecological Sanitation

The WAND Foundation in cooperation the Center for Advanced Philippine Studies (CAPS) and Xavier University recently conducted a 4 day training course entitled “Practical Training on Ecological Sanitation”. The training was held at the WAND Foundation Demo Farm in Libertad and at Xavier University. 

Training activities focused onthe practical side of building and installing different ecosan technology designs ranging from the simple arborloo, double-vault and single-vault systems.The objective of the training is to offer this practical knowledge to those interested in the construction and installation of this type of sanitation technologies. The Sustainable Sanitation Center at Xavier University provided the theoretical support throughout the training with particular focus on public health and the agricultural reuse aspects related to these technologies.   

 

The training on ecological sanitation practicum was aimed at providing participants with a menu of solutions in implementing ecological sanitation in any possible setting and geographic area and in any possible situation in life. Thus presented during the training are ecosan solutions ranging from the simple urinal or EcoPee to the more sophisticated single-vault ecosan.

 

A total of 31 trainees coming from various disciplines and background ranging from university engineering students, engineers, waste management consultant, farmer-leaders and agriculturists attended the training.
